Our Services - Additional Information

ECOLOGY CHAPTERS

Our project experience includes pre-planning assessment of protected species and priority habitats; data analysis and technical reporting; planning of mitigation, compensation and enhancement measures. Ecologists Ireland have experience of development projects within a wide range of business sectors, including renewable energy, construction, water, infrastructure and industrial, projects large or small, in Ireland, Scotland, England and Wales.

APPROPRIATE ASSESSMENT

Projects or plans that may impact on European Designated sites (Natura 2000) require an Appropriate Assessment. Our experience includes Stage 1: Screening and Stage 2: Appropriate Assessment for projects impacting on a diverse range of Annex II species and Annex I priority habitats (Special Area of Conservation), and Annex I bird species (Special Protection Areas).

We offer a robust, systematic and objective approach to ensure compliance with statutory guidelines throughout the appraisal process.

WIND FARMS

Our staff wind farm experience includes pre-planning assessment of protected species and priority habitats; quantitative assessment through collision risk analysis and population modeling; planning of mitigation, compensation and design of post-construction monitoring.

Ecologists Ireland have experience of proposed and existing wind farm sites from lowlands to uplands, from 6 turbines to 80, in Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland and England.

CRITICAL & TECHNICAL REVIEW OF PLANNING DOCUMENTS

Documents produced for submission to the planning authorities need to be clear, accurate and objective.

We provide independant critical and technical evaluation of documents to ensure consistency with planning policy and wildlife legislation. Our review process offers an impartial and confidential response on reports with technical and scientific content for Environmental Impact Statements and Appropriate Assessments.

BIRD, MAMMAL & OTHER PROTECTED SPECIES SURVEYS

We provide surveys for breeding, wintering and migrating birds, and most ther protected species in Ireland. The type, timing and number of surveys will depend on the site, time of year and species involved. If surveys show protected species will be impacted by your development, then appropriate mitigation may be required. Ecologists Ireland can undertake surveys for any project whether this is for a wind farm, housing estate, or any other development, commercial or otherwise.

HABITAT & SPECIALISED BOTANICAL SURVEYS

Ecologists Ireland offer a range of specific botanical surveys for priority habitats and protected plants . The optimum timescale for habitat work is between April and September. Where habitats are identified as being particularly important, special measures may be required, either to avoid or minimise the loss of habitat, or mitigate for it during the development process.
